Martha’s Song

The hardships of homelessness are overcome by an old woman's determination to hold on to the one gift she has left.

I wrote this short screenplay after seeing an elderly lady standing in the snow in Kiev, singing her heart out. It moved me a lot. She was poor, down on her luck yet the beauty of her voice meant she was rich in other ways. It lent her dignity. I felt she would still be singing even if she had all the money in the world.
